Mark Gilbert - Instructor

In 1972, I started diving in the stone age of diving. I started taking UW photos in 1976. I have been a Boy Scout Leader since 1998, & had no interest in becoming a dive professional, until 1998, when I found out I had to hold at least a Divemaster Rating to work with Boy Scouts. In 2001, I helped to start the Discover Scubadiving Program at Camp Naish, that ran until COVID 19 hit. I became a PADI Divemaster in 2003. At age 50, I retired & I started helping in the shop. I became a certified Scubapro Technician, and a PSI certified tank inspector in 2005. I achieved my PADI Master Scubadiver Trainer rating in 2009. During the month of August, you will usually find my wife & I on the west end of St Croix, USVI - where I will be taking UW pictures (usually 1400 during the trip). The town pier in Frederiksted is my favorite place to dive. It is where I shot my most memorable underwater photo: a pair of mating Common Octopus - that I found while solo diving! The dives I cherish the most are the ones that I have done while diving with wife, our children, and grandchildren. Life is short, so let’s go diving!
Like all MSDT instructors, I am certified to teach Discover Scuba to Divemaster and multiple specialty classes, but I usually only teach:

- PADI Digital Photography
- PADI Equipment Specialist
- Private refresher’s
- Boy Scout Classes
